Located in the Mexican Caribbean, Cozumel is a flat Island formed from the same limestone that comes from the reefs. The most important natural elevation its at no more than 13 meters above the sea level. Cenotes formed by water filtration through the limestone during thousands of years can be explored swimming or through activities such as snorkeling and diving, when you can see a wide variety of marine species.
The island is about 48 km long from north to south and 14.8 kms wide from east, making it the third largest island in Mexico after Tiburón Island located in the State of Sonora and Angel de la Guarda Island located in the State of Baja California.
Located 20 km east of the eastern seaboard of Yucatan Peninsula, and 60 kilometers south of Cancun, it has an area of 647.33 km2 compared with 1,208 km2 of Tiburón Island and 895 Km2 of Angel Guardian Island.
