Cozumel, Quintana Roo. – With a capacity for more than eight thousand passengers and more than two thousand crew arrived in Cozumel on Sunday the world’s largest cruise ship, the Symphony of the Seas, which measures 362 meters long and weighs 228 tons.
On behalf of Governor Carlos Joaquin, General Director of Administración Portuaria Integral de Quintana Roo (Apiqroo), Alicia Ricalde Magaña, accompanied by municipal authorities, welcomed the passengers of the ship on its first call to the island.
The head of the Apiqroo said that the arrival of floating hotels of this magnitude strengthen and consolidate the Island of the Swallows as one of the best destinations in the cruise industry in Mexico and Latin America.
Bobby Addams, Cruise Management of the Symphony of the Seas, said that Cozumel is considered one of the best ports in the world. “The company employees when they come to the Mexican island always like to leave the ship to increasingly meet the destiny.”
The Symphony of the Seas, from Royal Caribbean, has an ice skating rink, surf simulator, the highest water slide at sea, musical choices and a bar served by robots.
After its arrival to the Caribbean island, cruise ship from Miami, Florida will continue to sail to Nassau Bahamas before returning to its place of origin.
In 2017, Cozumel recorded one thousand 245 cruise ship calls and more than four million 100 thousand passengers. So far in 2018, until September, 943 arrivals and over three million 116 passengers have been recorded. There were present at the event the mayor of Cozumel, Pedro Joaquin, as well as authorities of the Harbor Master and the Ministry of the Navy ( SEMAR), among others.
